Volar Counselling Services
Val Neufeld, msw, rsw
therapist
Volar comes from the Spanish word "to fly" - as well - was my nick name as a kid
My Approach
As a therapist and hearing stories shared by individuals of all ages and backgrounds - I have been often humbled by the courage and resilience. I am able to offer a number of strategies and tools to manage issues in life - however- I have learned over the years that the most important aspect of counselling is based in the understanding that we all have a sense of what we want in our lives - maybe not always knowing how to get there. What counselling can offer is a safe place to be heard - to navigate and understand your life and to gather the resources and courage along with support to move forward.

About me
I come to this work with a depth of experience, and have a respect and an appreciation for the importance of finding a space to discover and nurture the resiliency, hope and strength in each of us
I have worked in the field of counselling for the past 30 years and as a private therapist for the past 25 years. I have my Masters of Social Work (1992) and am a Registered Social Worker
I have heard people say that maybe things aren't bad enough to go to counselling- that there are always people worse off. Although there are times people come for counselling when there is a crisis in life - very often - people come for counselling when they want something more in their lives. They are feeling stuck or sad or depressed or anxious or angry - and are needing support and guidance to move forward.
This work is open to individuals of all ages -and backgrounds.
I have experience in a wide range of issues such as: anxiety, depression, anger management, low self esteem, past abuse, eating disorders, body image, grief, abuse, relationship conflicts, pregnancy, adapting to changes, spirituality, trauma, parenting, family conflicts, life transitions.
Is counselling for me?
What is counselling
Counselling is a relationship that is working towards what is best for you. A place to explore feelings or thoughts or experiences that you may not feel able to discuss with others. Life can be challenging and things happen that we don't plan for or expect - and even though we try - we can feel stuck - or that people around us don't understand - we can feel anxious, depressed, resentful, trapped, tired, hopeless, sad our thoughts and intensity of our emotions can be sometimes frightening -pressures and expectations overwhelming.
Counselling is a place that you - in confidence - can safely explore difficult stories, thoughts, feelings - feel less alone in your struggles and together - seek ways to work through the difficulties you are facing
